On October 7, 2007   kayemmdee said: I am going to have to reduce the rating on this chapter over what I gave to the first chapter since some of the pronunciations continue to be wrong. While there is some argument about the exact pronunciation of some of Latin and there are differences between classical and later / church Latin (I use classical Latin,) the rules are pretty consistent about which syllable to accent. The accent should be on the penultimate syllable if that syllable's vowel if long and on the antepenultimate syllable if the penultimate syllable's vowel is short. Thus, for instance, "tempore" in "brevi tempore" should be accented on the first syllable since the "o" is short. Also, "hodie" is a three-syllable word and is not pronounced "HO dee."
